Laudato Sicalls our attention to the decline in the quality of life, owing to the “brokenness of relationships with our fellow beings (families and societies), the nature (the life-sustaining ecosystems that form our common home) and the Creator God (our common Father); and to the urgency of our renewed solidarity (harmony) with God, neighbours, and the created order, which “is of the order of love” (Pope Francis, 228, 77).
In the Vedic Literature, Rta (in Sanskrit ऋतम्) is considered the principle of harmony. The Rigveda describes Rta as that which is ultimately responsible for the proper functioning of the ‘natural (cosmic), moral (ethical) and religious (spiritual) orders. The trilogy manifests itself in all domains of human experience/knowledge, as pursued in sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Moreover, in the personal life, harmony (ad intra) is realized through the integration of the cognitive (thoughts), conative (acts) and affective (feelings) dimensions of the self; and harmony (ad extra) through the interplay of the self, other, nature and God.
